NYFW {My Favorite Collections}

September 18, 2012 · 5 Comments

New York Fashion Week for Spring 2013 has been over for almost a week now, but I’m still eyeing the beautiful collections that graced the cat walk this season. I find myself captivated by lady like cuts, effortless fabrics, and rich ethereal colors that are “oh so” feminine. But what’s really got me going are pants!! I’m a dress and skirt kind of girl, but I’m looking forward to spring’s structured and flowy pants that make a presence as you walk by. I’ve also been drawn to darker hues of green, plum, and navy as well as stripes…which is not my typical style. Every year I look forward to my favorite designer, and was surprised to see some new favorites make my list this year. Go here to take a look at all of NYFW’s collections.

My favorite collection was Zac Posen. His collection dripped in glamour and elegance, with soft and pretty details. You can tell he was channeling the greatest fashion icons {Grace Kelly} His pieces make women look beautiful and powerful!

I was intrigued by Diane Von Furstenberg‘s brightly colored seventies inspired pants and tunics that made me feel like I was traveling the Mediterranean. I love how her simple shoes become edgier with touches of metal and chains.

The epitome of my style was shown in J. Mendel‘s range of colors from sherbets to jewel tones and sheer fabrics that scream “femininity” and “grace”. What I loved the most was that for every soft hue, he introduced a richer dramatic version of the color. Next spring, I know I’ll be channeling these looks.

If one designer can take you from soft 1950’s inspired dressed, to rich bright colors, simple lines, and edgy textured lace it would be the genius of Oscar de la Renta. His lace cutout shoes and striped gowns were my favorite!

Oh, Vera Wang you can do no wrong! Her looks are sophisticated and not overly embellished. I’m a lover of lace, and especially loved her delicate yet intricate detailing.

Marchesa have always had stunning gowns, and this year their collection has me yearning to travel to India. I’m completely mesmerized by the beading and embroidery, not to mention its wildly rich color palette

Physically, I’ve been here on this foggy & rainy Physically, I’ve been here on this foggy & rainy Sunday ... Mentally, I’m sailing along Porto’s Douro River feeling the warm golden hour sun, the bustling winds & picturesque sights⛵️

If you want to go on a little mental trip w. me, head over to the the Blog to read more about my lovely sailing trip in Porto. Sailing is one of my favorite ways to explore a city🤍🌊
Always embracing the subtle beauty that saturates Always embracing the subtle beauty that saturates the simple things🤍

I’ve found the less I share on social media the more authenticity thrives. The ever-dream & idea filled mind grows & flourishes. It’s been comforting knowing that other creatives I’ve admired for years, both event related & not, have in part felt the same. When one creative outlet was paused, the other creative ideas that had been hibernating in the mind, quietly waiting for their time, began to shine brighter & brighter. Yes, it’s been comforting feeling that commonality in change & perspective...

But the one thing that’s never changed for me, is celebrating the beauty in the simple things. Giving a new home, a new form of life to a simple treasure. Those subtle everyday moments that are beyond inspiring...

“I’m in no hurry; the sun & the moon aren’t, “I’m in no hurry;
the sun & the moon aren’t, either.
Nobody goes faster
than the legs they have.
If where I want to go is far away,
I’m not there in an instant.

I’m in no hurry. What for?
The sun & moon aren’t in a hurry: they’re right.
Hurrying is believing people
can get past their legs,
or that, jumping, they can land
past their shadow.
No; I don’t know how to hurry.
If I stretch out my arm,
I get exactly where my arm gets --
not even a centimeter farther.
I only touch where I touch,
not where I think.
I can only sit down where I am.
& that’s funny, like all really true truths,
but what’s really funny
is that we’re always thinking something else
& we live absent from our reality.
& we’re always outside it because we’re here.

Não, não sei ter pressa.” -- Fernando Pessoa

I've come to realize that my path is a slower one, albeit scenic, but slower. So when time feels like it's whirling by faster than a blink, like March felt, at least for me, it certainly makes me feel a bit on edge. Anyone else?

But I'm reminded of the sun,
the garden, the bees & the blooms,
how their slowness welcomes full
& brighter days ahead🌿
