Traveling To…Mt. Lemmon {Part 2}

June 16, 2013 · 4 Comments

IMG_1334Happy Father’s Day to the one dad that’s been there through every science project and math homework, the genius of a handyman I can only aspire to be, and along with my grandfather the garden guru who I constantly seek advice for my budding flowers. He’s been to every high school musical, crew race in the rain and graduation in my lifetime, and I can’t thank you all that you have done and supported me through these years {along with my mother of course – the dynamic duo} But we also share an unspoken special bond reflected in our love and passion for travel, nature, art, photography, music, and food. I guess you can say I get it all from him, which is why our relationship may not be one of many words, it’s always about things that we truly love in life, and why I’m usually the one going alongside him to jazz festivals and art galleries.

IMG_2647It was only fitting through my weeks of procrastination, well more like the lack of time to write between work, out of town friends, birthday  celebrations and mini vacations, that I share our trip to Mt. Lemmon a few weeks back when my parents where in town.  When I first visited Mt. Lemmon, I wanted to see snow, be reminded of home, and this time although the ground wasn’t covered, the trees where in full green bloom and the fresh mountain air filled our lungs. My mom couldn’t get past how much it reminded her of Serra da Estrela, and instantly I longed to be across the Atlantic climbing the Torre. As my mother, steered clear from the cliffs, my dad and I, with our cameras in hand ventured off track, up and down slippery rocks, over trickling streams, and admired the unique rock formations that transformed to an endless sea of trees, as we continued our journey up the highest point in Tucson. IMG_2648 IMG_2649 IMG_2653 IMG_2654 IMG_2656 IMG_2660 IMG_2661 IMG_2663 IMG_2664 IMG_2665 IMG_2668 IMG_2671 IMG_2672 IMG_2673 IMG_2674 IMG_2675 IMG_2676 IMG_2677 IMG_2678 IMG_2679 IMG_2681 IMG_2682 IMG_2683 IMG_2684 IMG_2685 IMG_2686 IMG_2689 IMG_2691 IMG_2692 IMG_2693 IMG_2696 IMG_2697 IMG_2699The beauty of this trip was that time stood still. There was no rush to get to the top, or worry about lunch and what we were going to do later. We just simply enjoyed the beauty that was all around us, and savored the time we had with each other at that exact moment. That’s how traveling should be. There are no rules about it, but to take advantage of the opportunity at hand, and if you’re lucky to be experiencing with dear people in your life, than you better make it count. Which is why my father and I get along so well, because we can spend an hour looking into the sunset or photographing a flower, and yet still not be satisfied that we’ve seen every beautiful detail. IMG_2700 IMG_2701 IMG_2703 IMG_2705 IMG_2706 IMG_2708 IMG_2709 IMG_2710 IMG_2712 IMG_1342 IMG_1344 IMG_1358 IMG_1360 IMG_1364 IMG_1365 IMG_1367IMG_6975The trip to the top is always worth it when you manage to enjoy a refreshing watermelon gazpacho and Mt. Lemmon mule at the Saw Mill Run restaurant. IMG_1369 IMG_1371The one thing I’ll take away from this trip was just how much I miss home, and appreciate all my parents do for me. It doesn’t matter how long it may take, once I’m at the top of Mt. Lemmon for how brief it may be, I’m reminded of so many happy and wonderful memories from home.

So today, take a moment to look back, at all the little things dad has done for you and tell him how much he means to you!

    […] This past Sunday was my father’s birthday, and I know that the best way to his heart is through his stomach, better yet his sweet tooth. I know that he misses my weekly pies and ice cream as much as I miss spending my summer days in the kitchen, plus it didn’t hurt to have personal tasters so I wouldn’t get tempted to eat too many sweets. These summer berry crumble treats are the perfect combination of tart fresh fruit, tender cake and crunchy nutty topping. A great dessert to send a loved one on a special occasion or to bring along on a brisk summer evening picnic. I’m really glad you enjoyed them Dad! […]

A Lover of Nature & Kindness, constantly smitten by the simple pleasures of life. Travel fills my soul with bliss & inspiration. Flowers are my weakness, a slice of homemade pie makes my heart sing. I love the outdoors & live for al fresco dinner parties, cozy candlelit romantic affairs with warm fires & blankets to share.

I dream about these things, it’s true. Yes, it’s all the small details in life that drive me & everything I do because we all deserve to celebrate every special moment in our lives…

I love how they make a statement in larger arrangements or more minimalist creations, but even more so, beautifully grouped together on their own in lovely vintage bud vases. Spring certainly has so many wonders & simple intricacies that bring us joy, even if for a brief season🌿

I’ve found the less I share on social media the more authenticity thrives. The ever-dream & idea filled mind grows & flourishes. It’s been comforting knowing that other creatives I’ve admired for years, both event related & not, have in part felt the same. When one creative outlet was paused, the other creative ideas that had been hibernating in the mind, quietly waiting for their time, began to shine brighter & brighter. Yes, it’s been comforting feeling that commonality in change & perspective...

But the one thing that’s never changed for me, is celebrating the beauty in the simple things. Giving a new home, a new form of life to a simple treasure. Those subtle everyday moments that are beyond inspiring...
