Traveling to … the Hubiku Cenote // Riviera Maya

June 26, 2014 · 2 Comments

Traveling to Hubiku Cenote: Rivera Maya Before making our way to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza {Part I and Part II}, we had the amazing experience of swimming in the Hubiku Cenote. Hubiku, the ancient Mayan word meaning “Great Lord”, is a magical cenote {a sinkhole created from rainfall}, and sacred place once thought by the Mayan people to be the entrance to the underworld. I’ve heard and seen so many amazing things about this wonder, I couldn’t wait to experience it for myself.

Traveling to Hubiku Cenote: Rivera Maya We were welcomed by Mayan warriors before taking a magical swim in the most crystal clear water I’ve seen, and one of the most beautiful natural wonders. I remember closing my eyes feeling like I was floating, listening to the birds flying, feeling natural sunlight shining through the opening above and in complete wonder and amazement that I was having this once in a lifetime experience, although I know I’ll be back.

After our quick swim, we made our way to learn how authentic Tequila is made, and even enjoyed ourselves a sampling of different aged tequila. My favorite, the almond, but brought home a three-year old barrel aged and coffee infused one I can’t wait to mix a refreshing summer cocktail with. In just one day, I engulfed myself with rich culture and magnificent natural wonders, the perfect way to start our Mexican travels. I’ll find the balance soon enough, perhaps I need to tap into the Mayan spirits once more for motivation and light….

the fragrant & gorgeous Jacaranda trees lighting up cobblestone alleys lined w. pastel colored buildings, becoming more vibrant as Summer’s heat begins to near….
Walking along the Rio Tejo feeling so close to the sea but not quite there & the streets not yet crowded w. vacationers basking in the city’s delight … walking around Lisboa is certainly a creative treat!! I’d love to be able to squeeze in a little summer travel; change of scenery is always such an inspiration, especially when life seems a bit crazy these days.

Any fun summer travels planned? Hope everyone enjoys the first weekend of summer🌼

sweet, darling June…

it seems we’re all being kept too busy these days, I don’t want the simple treasures of this month to go by so quickly but it’s like I haven’t slowed down enough to catch my breath between events & to do’s — not since my birthday, these flowers & a cake I enjoyed making too much to photograph. They weren’t for my birthday, but for someone else’s, but it really was the joy of creating this arrangement however way the color yellow called to me, foraging for delicate peonies, garden roses & stems that would make these uniquely special🌿

Not the most picturesque photo of these beautiful florals (you can swipe for those), but I’m quite enamored w. this shot … perhaps it’s that gentle reminder to slow down & take note of the in-between…
