Traveling to: Washington DC

November 24, 2014 · Leave a Comment

Traveling to Washington DCI needed to take a break from Thanksgiving and holiday everything, and share a few photos from a weekend trip to Washington DC a few weeks ago. The weather couldn’t be more perfect for a beautiful backdrop of peak colored trees in the capital city. Me and the boyfriend, took the drive down, for business and pleasure. He needed to visit a few sites in Baltimore for work, which coincidentally was the same weekend one of our good college friends was having the launch party for his new app AbsorbDC. {If you live in the DC area, this app is perfect for helping you choose the perfect happy hour specials and places to head for drinks.}

It was a mini college reunion with friends coming from Philly, New York and New Jersey. It was great to see friends, but also visit Washington DC since my eighth grade school trip. It definitely looks much different from I remember, and it was great to experience downtown DC, go out in Chinatown and drive around iconic Georgetown. And no i didn’t get myself some Georgetown Cupcakes, the line curved down the other block, plus we much rather enjoyed walking by the river our last moments before driving back. I didn’t get many photos, since we decided to take a driving tour but it was still such a refreshing break to get away from the tri-state area. Quick weekend trips like these always make me want to move again, but that won’t be happening anytime soon, but for now I’m grateful I have close friends in many different states, which means many more travels.
Traveling to Washington DCTraveling to Washington DCWe arrived in downtown DC before everyone else so we decided to stop by Capitol City Brewing Company, where we enjoyed their house flight and a sampling of their pumpkin spice brew. But seriously we had one of the best pretzels, and for someone who isn’t big on horseradish, this infused hot mustard was the perfect complement. Traveling to Washington DCTraveling to Washington DCI have a thing for miniature items, I just had to bring these back with me.

Traveling to Washington DC Traveling to Washington DC Traveling to Washington DC Traveling to Washington DC Traveling to Washington DC Traveling to Washington DCI had a lot of bests this weekend, and I’m still dreaming about this cereal crusted challah french toast with bourbon syrup from The Carving Room. It’s one of the few brunch places I’ve been too where there is an item on the menu that offers me something sweet alongside eggs, and I’m so glad I choose their sweet and savory. It’s a charming little brunch place, and when the sun’s out you’ll see locals playing a bean bag toss game. Traveling to Washington DCA quiet yet lovely Sunday morning.

A Lover of Nature & Kindness, constantly smitten by the simple pleasures of life. Travel fills my soul with bliss & inspiration. Flowers are my weakness, a slice of homemade pie makes my heart sing. I love the outdoors & live for al fresco dinner parties, cozy candlelit romantic affairs with warm fires & blankets to share.

I dream about these things, it’s true. Yes, it’s all the small details in life that drive me & everything I do because we all deserve to celebrate every special moment in our lives…

This Soba Tom Yum Noodle dish, inspired by @chriss This Soba Tom Yum Noodle dish, inspired by @chrissyteigen recipe wouldn’t be considered traditional but it does celebrate the beautiful Thai flavors I love. I’ll take all the spice & lemongrass please🍜😋!! It’s certainly become a staple of mine, one I’ve recreated several times & I highly recommend you save in your back pocket because it will leave you craving more...& more!!

I used to post lots of recipes on the blog ‘til weddings/events/design took center stage & hoping to do so more again. Get this recipe on the blog now!
I read something yesterday, that made me instantly I read something yesterday, that made me instantly stop & reflect..."Some people think that having Hope makes you naive, but in my mind, it's so much harder to choose Hope over being angry or frustrated..." As someone who considers herself quite a hopeful person, I've had this on my mind since. Let's not confuse Hope w. toxic positivity {in which negative feelings or hardships are pushed aside}, when there is Hope, we still acknowledge our worries, the drawbacks of life, the sadness but still know that there is good.

We've all been doing our best nearing a year into this pandemic; the lives lost, families broken, the uncertain long-term issues, jobs, livelihoods disrupted & most recently too many people to count, struggling after a natural disaster. My heart breaks & is w. all of you, but despite the darkness, what I've also seen during these trying times...is Hope & Love. Communities & strangers coming together to help one another however way they can, even when they too are struggling to get by. That right there, is Hope. Be gentle with yourself, be gentle w. those around you. We’re all doing the best we can🤍
