How To: Festive Christmas Trees

December 3, 2015 · 2 Comments

How To: Festive Christmas TreesMost houses are decked in lights, and you might already have your tree looking special, but I’ve got an easy diy to add some extra sparkle into you Christmas decor. I’ve been working on decor pieces for a winter wonderland party, and to save costs I decided to make my own version of those pretty shimmering trees you see in stores, but can be a bit too pricey. And for about $15, I was able to make eight adorable trees in three different and super easy styles.

How To: Festive Christmas Trees

You don’t have to ask me twice to craft decor pieces, especially during Christmastime alongside the glow of the tree, while listening to beautiful holiday music. Seriously, every time I think I’m done decorating, I always find a way to add a few more holiday touches. And these sparkly trees are the perfect festive touch and just lovely this season.

I made my own cones from poster board to save even more costs, but you can use paper mache or foam cones to save time, but they will be pricer. Then I covered my trees with silver glitter ribbon, silver fringe, and white and silver tinsel garland {which was all SUPER discounted at Michael’s. Seriously I’m obsessed with beautiful ribbon, and their holiday sales are a crafter’s dreams, so stock up on decorating and gift wrapping supplies while you can!}. This year my Christmas decor played on different metallic hues, but you can create these trees to fit your holiday style, with different ribbons, garland, or maybe even pine cones. Have fun with them!

You’ll Need:
  • Poster Board {or paper mache/foam cones – just skip steps to create cone}
  • Hot Glue Gun + Glue Sticks
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Decorative Pieces: Ribbons, Silver Foil Tissue Paper, Tinsel Garland {or pine cones, berries, ornaments, etc..}
How To: Festive Christmas Trees

To make the poster board cones, roll the poster board into different sized cones, then use the pencil to mark where you will need to cut. Place a line of hot glue alongside the seam to secure the cone in place. Carefully cut off the bottoms, so that the cone sits flat. How To: Festive Christmas TreesHow To: Festive Christmas Trees

Tree #1: Tinsel Garland

Starting at the bottom of the cone, at the seam, place a line of hot glue along the bottom rim. Adhere your tinsel garland around, then work your way upward, placing glue at the top to secure the garland. Fluff just a bit. Leave as is, or top with a snowflake or ornament, or place atop a vase for added height. How To: Festive Christmas TreesTree #2: Glittered Ribbon

Measure the first strip of ribbon by wrapping it around the top and bringing to the bottom, with about 1/2″ on the bottom to fold inwards. Place a few dots of glue at the top of the cone, wrap the ribbon around the top and then stretch it towards the bottom. Place a few dots inside the cone where there ribbon will go to secure it in place. How To: Festive Christmas TreesCut strips of ribbon to fit the remaining area of the cone, using the seam of the first strip of ribbon as your starting point. Repeat the above steps until ribbon is completely covered, placing a line of glue along the sides of each ribbon to secure in place, and prevent it from lifting and showing the poster board.

Tree #3: Silver Fringe
This one can be a bit tricky as the foil paper, sticks easily to strands of glue or moist hands. You can easily do this with regular colored tissue paper, I’m sure it will be a bit easier. {It took three trees for me to get the hang of working with the foil material and achieve a look I liked, so mess around with the foil paper before gluing it}. Cut strips of tissue paper about 2 inches in width and the length of the circumference of the cone {each fringe layer will be a different length, so use a ribbon to measure how long of a fringe piece you will need}. Then cut thin strips to create the fringe, leaving about 1/2 inch border at the top.
How To: Festive Christmas Trees
Place a few dots of glue about 1/2 inch above the bottom of the cone, and in small sections carefully apply the fringe, not placing the cut fringe onto the glue. Repeat this step, working your way upwards to the top. I found that the smaller the fringe and the closer the fringe pieces are glued to the layer beneath it, the fuller the tree will look. At the top, place a dot of glue  inside the center, and pinch to create a point, then trim off any excess. Allow the glue to dry at least an hour, then fluff up the fringe {if not the foil paper will begin to stick in places you won’t want it to}. Place atop a vase to create added height if you’d like.

And that’s it! How festive and pretty do these Christmas trees look, and they’re affordable! You can group them together on a mantle with some snowflakes and ornaments nestled between or on your holiday table for a sparkling statement centerpiece. {On a side not, don’t the fringe and tinsel garland trees slightly look like New Year’s Eve hats? I totally thought so, so keep them around and sparkle into the new year with them!}How To: Festive Christmas Trees

I love everything about entertaining. Flowers are my weakness, a slice of homemade pie makes my heart sing & I’m a sucker for wedding videos. Travel is a constant source of inspiration and motivation. I dream about these things, it’s true. But what I love most, is working with amazing people to create meaningful & unique celebrations…..

Her 3rd birthday may not be as big as her “Some Bunny is 1” or “Peppa Pig Muddy Puddles” celebrations but her loved ones are sure to make her special day “Berry Sweet”🍓🌸

lessons last year served us...
I expand upon all my visions, dreams & intentions
I aim to expand on love, abundance, health, joy, comfort, courage, creativity, adventure, calm, authenticity, w.e big or small that makes my soul sing & thus expand upon my growth.
But I wholeheartedly hope that this year can help others expand on all the good things they want as well -- especially in global terms🤍

I haven't set resolutions in years, instead I always set intentions -- little things that become part of who I am & in turn become the steps to bring all those images I'm inspired by, into life in my own way.

I'm simplifying even more & stripping it down, choosing to always show myself, & others,
more Grace. I quite enjoy this slow but intentional path. Yes, embracing a fresh new start seems appealing, but there’s much uncertainty still to face & we have a whole year ahead of us.

There’s time to get it done so no need to rush into it...show yourself & others some grace, be a Kind human always, because anything can happen✨

Adeus 2020... It‘ll be impossible to forget you, Adeus 2020...
It‘ll be impossible to forget you, you broke us, but you also reminded us how we resilient we are. Your chapter is closed, good riddance!!

Ironically my word for 2020 was “Bliss” yet despite all the grief, the heartbreak + emotional rollercoaster I think all of us, although at times hard, did see the silver linings this past year brought. Personally, I realized early on the immense amount of Bliss that was already present in my life, perhaps more so if this year wasn’t what it was.

No, there weren’t Big Blissful moments or travels, but there was so many moments to enjoy the simple pleasures of every day. More time in the garden, a newfound excitement in the kitchen, endless cloud gazing — birdsong listening — butterfly + dragonfly catching — soothing sunsets + always stopping to smell the roses moments. Blissful moments to create whatever it was I felt like doing, moments to appreciate what truly matters in life + what of that is what always needs to be present in life. The chance to escape in the safety of nature + loved ones. The blissful opportunity to rest, to mentally wander, to learn what stillness really is.

I gave myself grace this year & a well deserved pat on the back, & I really hope you did the same!! As I sail into 2021 I remember just how important all these moments are for growth + Expansion…

Things won’t change right away but all I can wish for all of us in 2021 is abundance, health, unity, joy & Love🤍🤍
Want to wish you all & your loved ones a very Merr Want to wish you all & your loved ones a very Merry Christmas🤍❄️ this year certainly doesn’t feel the same, we’re not gathering w. our loved ones, in fact for many this holiday season has been even more stress inducing than other years. But it doesn’t mean it can’t be magical & wonderful & beautiful whether you’re with your kids, your parents or spending it alone. Don’t forget to make it special & honor your favorite traditions, even if just for yourself!!

May these final days of the year be calm, be love & may brighter days shine upon us all next year✨🌿
