Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired Baskets

December 10, 2015 · 4 Comments

Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired BasketsI love Moroccan blankets, and inspired home decor, I mean who doesn’t. It’s just so beautiful and fits many decor styles, but they can often be too expensive. I’ve had this diy saved on my to do list for awhile, with the intention of making a few for Christmas. If I’m gifting someone with a group of smaller items, I like to place the gifts in something that it part of their gift and they can then use, like this tray. But a set of these baskets are just a lovely gift on their own. Whether for the fashion or beauty lover, or for a mommy-to-be and her new nursery, these baskets are just the prettiest things to coral those unattractive items. Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired BasketsI bought several different colored and style sequin strands and tassels, but if you prefer the more traditional style go with just silver. You’d actually be surprised how easy this handmade holiday gift really is, no sewing required! I do suggest you make a few extra, because you will want to keep them for yourself once you’re done.

You’ll Need
  • White Fabric Storage Baskets {I purchased mine here}
  • Scissors
  • Fabric Measure Tape
  • Sequin Trim {about 1″ thick}
  • Thin Sequin Trim {about 1/8″ thick}
  • Tassel, Pom Pom or Fringe Trim
  • Fabric Glue
  • Sewing Needles

Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired BasketsHandmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired BasketsBefore cutting your trim strands, place them onto the basket to determine your desired look. Measure the circumference of your baskets, and cut your sequin and tassel strands accordingly.

Starting at the baskets seam, begin applying your first trim at the top. Place a thin line of fabric glue about 2″ long, apply the trim gently and continue along until the ends meet.

Place needles in a few sections of each trim, in order to secure the trims in place while the glue dries completely.

Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired Baskets I don’t store silver tinsel garland, but it sure looks pretty in these baskets. But they are perfect for keeping my gloves and winter head gear on hand this season. I love these specifically for a nursery or child’s room, I mean they make hiding diapers, wipes and creams on a changing table look much better! Handmade Holiday: Moroccan Inspired BasketsSince most of us can’t afford a traditional Moroccan wedding blanket, these baskets are a great way to bring the style into your home and gift someone with a handmade gift that brings a bit of luxury into their own home.

Beauty Lover Gift Guide:
  • Lush Olive Branch Shower Gel:  I fell in love with the scent of Lush’s Olive Branch bath gel when I was gifted it for my birthday, and I’m hooked, it makes showering feel like a beautiful experience. Lush is a great organic beauty brand, from soaps to masks, it’s got something pretty for every beauty lover.
  • Frank Body Scrub: In a short time Frank Body has exploded, and for good reason. Ever since I first heard about their scrubs, I never looked back. Along with their body balm, it really works to achieve smooth skin, and reduce the look of cellulite, stretch marks and scars. What lady would’ want that!
  • Dayna Decker Candles: Because if you’re gifting luscious products for an amazing bath time, you need an delicious smelling candle to make it even more special. Now I don’t purchase Dayna Decker candles, because well they’re just too expensive for me, but I was able to score two 12oz candles for $35 from a Today Show special. Now you don’t have to go buying a candle that expensive for a gift, but a nice rose scented or lavender candle work just as lovely.

tiny joyous things🌿 ... I try not to lose sight tiny joyous things🌿 ... I try not to lose sight of the fact I get to create & "work" w. beautiful flowers; one of the things I love so much & one of the joyful parts of creating & sharing my work w. others. But this whole social media thing is weird right, the world is weird & broken right now -- as creatives seems like are new age question is "do I post this pretty picture when this is really happening right now?! but it's also kind of my job to put my work out there for others to see, right?!" ... but I’m learning, funny enough, by some inspiring women on this platform, it's ok to feel all these things while also sharing the joyous, cool & helpful things we are all working on, creating & hoping to bring into this world. Life is filled w. beautiful & sad moments, happiness, joy, grief, fear, doubt, love. All the tiny things🤍

& if anyone watched last night's This is Us, how beautiful was their telling of one's final moments, looking back at life. Ugh my heart😢

May is the start of a busy few months of events, so I’m going to make sure I prioritize Rest whenever I can. But also plenty of garden days, living & cherishing simple moments — because when the busy days will feel like a blur or the state of the world (big/small) only adds to the mental drain, I know these will be the things that keep me going🤍
