An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday

March 20, 2017 · 1 Comment

Hello Spring! Although, most of us are still bracing the cold and covered in snow, today is the perfect day to finally share this beautiful party I styled at the end of February. A first birthday is a milestone in itself, and even if you aren’t keen on birthdays, the 1st is a mandatory celebration! It of course has to be extra special and extra adorable. On a sun-filled Sunday, a bare space transformed itself for Delia’s 1st birthday, into a beautiful enchanted forest, fit with a secret garden, gorgeous sweet treats and a special area just for playful fairies. Scroll below to see every lovely detail from this special celebration…An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsAn Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery Events An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsAn Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsThe centerpieces themselves resembled miniature forests. Beds of lush green moss were topped with rustic tree slices, and terrariums that were filled with a mixture of pink daisies and roses, soft lavender mums, bright green mums and yellow solidago, and delicate Quicksand roses. This is what enchanted floral dreams are made of! Finishing the foresty look, were twinkling moss covered votives and pinecones lightly dusted with gold paint. Of course an enchanted forest isn’t complete without its gilded mountain animals. An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsAn Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsAn Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsAn enchanted forest 1st birthday wouldn’t be the same without some fairy games and activities, and there was plenty of fun times for all the little fairies and garden creatures attending! Tri-State Kids stopped by, bringing pretty face painting, whimsical balloon animals, cotton candy and even a magic show. There was a bouncy house where kiddos could jump around and release their energy, which got them tired enough for painting.

This was by far the biggest hit amongst the kids. We had personalized coloring books and twig colored pencils for each, and painting stations where they could paint wooden slabs and create unique fairy houses. Kids, young and even old, loved painting these little houses, choosing their own fairy and decorating with the cutest mini mushrooms. The birthday girl loved watching others take part in the fun, but her big sister Olivia is the one who loved it the best. You can tell by her paint filled hands, and dress, she’s a budding artist. Each child’s creation was just so cute!

One of my biggest tips for anyone throwing a birthday with 5 or more children, set up an activity station. The kiddos will be busy, and you will be thankful they’ll have something to do and you can actually enjoy yourself! An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery Events

An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery EventsPrepare to feast your eyes on this gorgeous and enchanting dessert table. The word “enchanting” may have been used way to many times, but I don’t know how else to describe all the beautiful details of this beautiful….If the pretty twinkling lit backdrop draped with fern didn’t make you swoon, then the stunning desserts certainly will. I couldn’t stop staring at the cake pops and mini cakes, made by a family friend, each detailed with edible gilded details and the perfect little roses.

A naked cake is a garden theme’s best friend, it’s the perfect base to create and add whatever pretty florals and forest greens imaginable. Guests were not only ooh-ing and ahh-ing over the lovely desserts, they were getting to know Delia a bit better. With an adorable chalkboard sign detailed with fun facts and a display of adorable photos of her amazing 1st year, you couldn’t help but say “awww.”An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery Events

Alongside glowing candles and Delia’s own butterfly cage, the photobooth became the hangout for everyone to gather to snap silly and pretty pictures. Aren’t these sisters the most precious little girls ever! I couldn’t get enough of them…An Enchanted Forest 1st Birthday | Dreamery Events

Posy...a small bunch of simple, sweet-smelling flowers, sometimes large enough to fit in a jar or as small as fitting a pin on a jacket.

Posies became popular during the Victorian era, where they cleverly used the language of flowers to discreetly convey their not-so-secret messages. Every flower and their placement in a posy had a specific meaning.

the summer harvest table... as the spinach grew the summer harvest table...

as the spinach grew and grew along the path, i envisioned it draping around candlesticks...
as the baskets filled with tomatoes, cucumbers, physalis, grapes and green beans bursting with the best of the season, i saw them overflowing along a table...

the garden now blooms with an abundance, every bit of magic harvested, savored and shared. and as I cook and preserve their beauty for the days when they are long gone, my mind can’t help but be inspired by their design potential...

I wanted to create a tablescape that reflected peak summer. one that celebrates the loving and necessary act of harvesting, and how it powerfully brings us together. to gather.

as if each person spilled their basket of pickings onto the table to share with one another. with heirloom linens and bits of treasures — an organically styled moment is made

a garland of cherry tomatoes would have been a fun detail, but every element was to be given, eaten raw or preserved within days. so, there are no mechanics, no wiring, no using food as candlesticks. but it also wasn’t the intention for this design, it’s meant to be simple and natural.

if we nurture it, the land gives us so much with every element working together in unison. we need the flowers, the trees and the food grown, the pollinators and animals adding their magic and the hands that tend it all to share with the world.

...it’s an ode to all that summer provides, a tablescape that fully cherishes my garden...

July has come to an end once more, and summer flow July has come to an end once more, and summer flows into August. Where slowly the seasonal changes take notice and the glow shifts. Oh, but there is plenty of summer still left to savor, for in the smallest moments it is constantly inviting us to chase adventure, explore curiosity, experiment and see the ordinary as anything but.

There is still an abundance of garden treasures to harvest, flowers blooming, and magic to create. And yet I can’t help but pause to reflect on florals I’ve made in past summers. Some of these pieces are some of my absolute favorite arrangement, simple yet evoking the feeling of this fleeting season...
