It’s funny, last Monday, less than a week before the first wedding of the season. I was feeling an immense sense calm before the last minute nerve of butterflies all wedding planners get, especially when relying on multiple vendors at one time. A wedding is someone’s special day, it’s your job to make sure it runs smoothly. So between making the last few bits of decor, there wasn’t much time for gathering ideas, but I did make some extra time to reflect on April, and the blur of a month it was. It did teach me a few new things and inspired me for this new month upon us. I’m being inspired by my favorite color of green alongside an earth tone color palette, sustainable DIY ideas, effortless white linen wardrobe staples and powerful moving documentaries about injustices that are happening to thousands in our country and need to be stopped…these are a few of the things I’ve been loving lately…..

If you’re looking to watch documentaries that will open your eyes, teach out about the government, how are criminal justice system works including all its many flaws that highly suggest you watch Vice’s “Raised in the System”it’s a look inside the lives of teens in the justice facilities they are detained in but also the several systems and locations that these children attend to prevent them from living the rest of their lives in jail. It is very sad, especially when they visit a school and have a serous talk with the students whose family have at least one person incarcerated. And if you’re not already watching the ground and news breaking Vice News ,you really need to! You learn a lot of the real things that are going on in the world that regular cable news doesn’t inform on.
If you’ve seen any SVU type crime show, you know that there are cases where a rape doesn’t make it in court, well because the rape kit doesn’t even get processed. “I Am Evidence” a documentary that explores this sad reality and isn’t easy one to watch, especially if you’re a woman, even more if you happen to be a survivor of rape. It exposes the scary number of untested rape kits in this country and sheds some light on how ridiculous the criminal justice system has treated sexual assault survivors. It mostly takes place in just one area, but this is happening all across the country. It showcases the stories of survivors, including the charge of their abuser and end to their pursuit of long-awaited justice of their cases.
I’ve basically stopped watching my regular binges, aside from my usual week night shows,to start watching The Office all over again. It will forever be one of my absolute favorite shows, it’s been quiet a bit of time since I’ve actually watched an episode. Gasp! I know what’s wrong with me , but I’ve fallen in love, and off my chair laughing all over again. It’s what got me through a crazy April, and first wedding of the year. I mean is there anything better than watching Michael and Dwight’s crazy antics or Pam and Jim’s love story. NO!
Timeless has been full of surprises, all before even getting through half the season. I mean Jessica, really?? Something is fishy there, I just know it!…..And if we’re talking about shockers. Did you see Jane the Virgin’s seasonal finale?!?! I’m not going to ruin it for anyone who hasn’t watched it yet, but WHAAAAAAT!?! I most definitely wasn’t expecting that!
Westworld is back and more weird, intricate and intriguing as the first season. Do you watch? Are you finding Season 2 difficult to grasp?
When it came to music, you can bet that April was full of indie folk favorites and new beats that will make you feel something. With a mix of jazz, dance, folk, indie, alternative…the songs in this Hello Spring Folk playlist are perfect for a spring and summer playlist. I’ve been loving discovering so many new artists and songs on Spotify’s discover playlists like Wild + Free and Happy Folk, totally fun free spirit music. There was also a lot of Lucius, like a lot! I listened to so many of their song lately, I love their style and attitude yes, but their unique voices and infectious beats get me everything time!
What has been inspiring you lately?? Do you have any creative or fun plans for May and the rest of Spring?
