And like that, a month has passed us once again. When I reveled in how January felt long but full, most would say it dragged. Why not revel in that, because once February comes around you reach the end of the month, standing there, looking out the window wondering when did the last weeks pass you by. You question whether or not you were even productive during that time, also is it even really winter? Exactly, see now you wish you hadn’t said that since we’re near approaching mid March!
It’s certain I like the warmer climates more, but I’ve grown an appreciate for the complete yearly seasonal cycle of Mother Nature, including Winter in all its true beauty. It’s quite disheartening, when on the east coast, especially in the tri-state area, we have yet to have real snow. We had a fluke SNOWSQUALL which I wasn’t even there for. I’m okay without multiple snow and ice storms during the season, but not even one or two, really?? Is that what our climate has gotten to?
Let’s take a detour and back to this real snowy winter adventure!!
I had never been to New Hampshire, naturally my wanderlust soul jumped at the opportunity to retreat upnorth to a state that had a recent bought of Winter. I really had been hoping that the predicted rain, of which drizzle on my drive up, would eventually turn into snow. Well, I certainly got a little wish, a joyful one indeed!
It had snowed a few days prior, so when I drove into New Hampshire and the private woodland area my Getaway House cabin resided, the drizzle of rain didn’t seem to dampen the picturesque view that it was. The drive in search of my cabin was a slow one, as the roads were icy, but mostly because my wandering eye was gazing in awe at the pretty wintery sights. I’m so glad I got to be here to witness….I got my snow!
I was also peeking at the roads and trails for my walk/hike tomorrow, hoping the rain would hold off until my departure. {It didn’t….}
Whenever I travel, the journey, is just as beloved and cherished as the destination’s experiences. Whether you’re on a car trip on your own, like I was this day and many of other times, or with another person or a few others — each minute, each moment, each thing that happens on that journey, that is all part of the whole travel journey.
Planes, trains, boats, buses
— whatever, however, whenever
— the journey is always worthwhile.
The rain seems to make things in life particularly slow, and also a bit more frustrated at times for many, especially when they are all trying go somewhere first or do something faster. I on other hand, don’t mind these longer road trip drives in rainy temps, of course if it is like this day, where the clouds loomed over slowly and the drizzle hit as I was nearing the cabin area.
I’m a detour kind of gal, especially if it involves driving through areas or cities I know very well. Traveling up to New England every Autumn with my cousin for the Patriots game, I’ve stopped in my old college town of Providence few times, and did so this past season and then again on this drive. During our football weekend, my cousin and I drove past Seven Stars Bakery after getting the yummiest tacos at Tortilla Flats, and since then the craving for Seven Stars’ crusty baked bread remained. Of course I had to oblige!
Of course I made a slight deviation to my travel route, since I was heading through the Boston area anyway, and found myself in my old neck of the woods. Once again enchanted with the College Hill area of Providence — the houses, the small narrow streets, the college campuses and students walking about; even more charming than I had ever before….realizing quickly that it had been about 8 years since I’ve called this city home.
Shaking that reality of passage of time quickly off, I grabbed a tasty and fresh Kale Salad and fresh baked loaf of Whole Wheat Bread from the nicest employee who complemented me on my scarf. Naturally I complimented him on his chic glasses.
I had prepacked all the other goodies needed for The Perfect Grazing board for a cozy snowy cabin dinner, with everything else in possession, onto Epsom it was!
What a charming wonderful sight of nature is was! And the view from my cabin, it looked like a painting.
Dream home/whereever I live — wake up with a window and view to a natural wonder like this!
The cabin itself was so darling inside. All light wood, giving both a cozy and modern feel. I mean when a cozy looking bed with the prettiest backdrop and view is this when you enter, what’s not to love!!
The kitchenette is the perfect size for one, or two, and the bathroom with a regular sized shower and intriguing electric toilet. There are certainly a lot of logistics to consider when setting up and maintaining cabins like these in the woods.
The Starry night was absolutely gorgeous! I couldn’t have asked for a better sight, oh wait, is that a Full Moon. Yes it was! And what a lovely sight! How great do these photographs taken at night of this pretty night sky look!!
It was exactly what my soul, mind, and body needed, and honestly could have been a much longer stay. Did you know Getaway House offers Fellowships who want to use their stay to further a skill, or piece, like art, write, cook, photograph, etc…it’s pretty interesting if these photos look like peace and perfection to you and you’re working on something creatively you want to grow or expand.
And so in the time that I’ve gotten back from my little woodsy Getaway House staycation in New Hampshire, there has been plenty that has changed is is still changing around the world, in our local communities and even our personal lives I’m sure. As I certainly saw much of a change in my own perspective while away on my adventure into the woods and the beautiful stillness of Mother Nature.
You know why I particularly don’t mind driving long distances or traversing across states in a shortish spans of time, like going to Lake George and back in one Sunday to celebrate my friend’s bridal and baby showers. I’ll do it, not many reasons needed, especially if it is for closest friends and dearest ones.
I like to gaze at the passing sceneries, see how locations, towns, lifestyle, people – how they all change as you change your location. I put on my road trippin’ playlist, because you know I have several lol, jamm out and sing, think of ideas that pop to mind, let the scenery and sights speak to me, reminding me of things, inspiring me of new or what I need most, help unveil the curtain to solution that has been hiding to a problem.
Most times when I drive, and when I’m alone, my thoughts are random, but deep. Some following now rhyme or reason, as in the time I wrote a poem to a poncho I once had. Yes, you read that correctly.
Well, here’s a jumble of all those random thoughts that came to mind on my little winter getaway…..
This little winter getaway was exactly what I was in need of! I’m already looking forward to my next time cozy up in one of these daring cabins for even longer of a stay, maybe even if more people too! I think we all deserve a Getaway!
