Calling all Crew Mates…there’s a blushing pink and golden 7th birthday “Among Us”!! Today we’re blasting back to summer and Olivia’s birthday celebration transformed into a modern Among Us backyard bash fit with large scale pastel-dressed crew mates, neon sign and wood rocket ship, the loveliest floral centerpieces of pretty peaches and warm golden hues — oh let’s not forget the kid-favorite, white bounce house!!
I will be honest with you, perhaps it’s because I don’t have children yet, but I had very little knowledge of what was Among Us, thinking it to be some branch of fan art, turns out it’s a game. Yes, I know you’re shaking your head “duh Diana…” and yes there was quite a bit of research on my part because I wanted to make sure that along with making the design modern and pretty, it needed to actually make sense with the game’s story. Olivia is a fan and I wanted to make sure, she picked up on all the fun little details and that these characters and concept were completely unique and custom to her. What was a cloudy summer Saturday? became a bright and darling escape into a space of games and adventures as only one can do as a child. Continue below to see all the lovely details and creative ways we recreated this Among Us theme, which I simply loved creating…
When it comes to Olivia’s birthday, we always love making a larger backdrop space so that it serves as a photo backdrop for all the guest. A quick look into all sorts of characters, colors, accessories and the things they can do, I learned that these are Crew Mates {with an Imposter being among them?}, and that they can essentially be dressed and customized as one would like, hence why when you search certain places some are quite creative and different than what the game is known for.
So we set out to create our own Among Us world where Crew Mates come in varying shades of blushes, light pinks, golden yellows and warm pastel oranges, with the invitation being the sweetest shade of green with a peach crew mate. What a delight of a color palette! Which then led to the immediate inspiration to use the existing oval-like shape of these characters and recreate them with the quite popular trend of arched walls! Ari Decor customized the colors exactly to our vision and we completed the look adding a decal of the character’s mask.
When in space one must be surrounded by stars, and in Olivia’s Among Us universe, hers come in varying shades of white gold and pink 😉 A pink candy-filled crew mate Piñata sat back, waiting to be enjoyed by Olivia and her friends, while she posed alongside her annual Chalkboard Memories board. It’s so heartwarming and special to have been a part of these moments and watch Olivia grow over the years, and now get her input on her celebrations.
I think the details on the dessert table are some of my favorite, but first let’s talk about this beautiful cake! Lady Lia’s Kitchen got my vision and brought it to life in cake form! It perfectly highlighted the theme and complimented the backdrop pieces, that I didn’t want to overwhelm the rest of the table’s look. With Among Us being a very popular game with many details, I wanted to pare things back a bit with this styling. Lia’s swirled pastel colored cupcakes and popsicle shaped cake pops as Crew Mates were too darling to eat, but they were quickly enjoyed along with “sparkly” gummy rings and sweet star candies.
When it came to the florals, I wanted to focus and highlight textures first — dried grasses like pampas and preserved stems, and clays and stones which you can see in the mismatched bud vases throughout. The centerpieces; an organic garden blend of Peach Roses and Carnations, Golden Yellow Double Tulips, White Ranunculus, Statice, Queen Anne’s Lace, Bleached Ruscus and greens from the garden.
Darling little stone textured bud vases were filled with Lunaria and Baby’s Breath, and although it may not show off those recognizable Among Us details, they were such a pretty and colorful element, plus momma Paula and Olivia love flowers 🙂
What started with worries of infrequent showers, became a perfect Saturday to have an outdoor summer party in early July. While adults mingledf, Olivia and her friends had plenty of space for adventures, like blasting off in such a cute white bounce house by Design Lab Rentals or swinging high and sliding fast on the tree house. Some gathered for hide and seek games, while others got a bit creative by painting their own Among Us crew mate wood character, which they then took home with them.
Sometimes very specific themes like Olivia’s Among Us can seem a bit of a challenge to pull off in a new way, but by tapping into the things you like most like colors, textures, shapes and details you can transform any theme into a look that is completely unique and custom to you.
I really loved how we pulled off this birthday celebration and I hope you do too!
