Floral Inspiration :: Singularity

April 24, 2023 · Leave a Comment

Singularity.

the use of one single bloom, one single color, to create one singular seasonal floral story.

at least that is what I’d like to call it. when describing anything as singular, well I’d say that is quiet the compliment.

to describe one as singularly anything …

Singularity :: noun ; .. The state of being singular, distinct, peculiar, uncommon or unusual. The singularity of something is a quality that’s unusual or unique. Of one singular element.

to me, that is singularly, special.

Perhaps when searching for ideas or creatively speaking, one would revert to calling singular floral designs that as monochromatic, dare I say monotone…(but mo.no.tone they are not)

I’d much prefer to call this approach to flower arranging as creating and playing with the idea of singularity ….. fine, how does the art of monochromatic singular floral arranging sound…

The focus on one color and shape, the same exact flower repeating itself. This time of year flowers often bloom a plenty, but their peak beauty is also for such a short time. A singular, or monochromatic, floral design is a technique that many of us unknowingly style with naturally, as the bundles of these seasonal blooms are easily at our disposable.

If we are getting technical, Monochromatic color schemes evolve from a single base hue, of which then extend into either lighter or darker shades and tones of that singular hue — but when gardens and flowering branches are all in full bloom {also technically speaking, too soon for some, too hot for others…} — we are often left with many stems of the same flower, nature’s monochromatic bundles meant to bring joy.

I‘m challenging myself to take the common early spring garden flower, often overlooked as anything other than “fine art florals” … but that pushback and challenge is where beauty emerges. From mixing these vibrant hued flowers with textured stems I love so, the easiest way we can all make these short lived statement flowers even brighter this season is a simple, and yes I truly mean simple, to put together floral modern minimalist arrangement. I’m making these singular spring blooms fine art, and so can you. Monochromatic singular floral designs easily blur between vintage and modern chic, perfect for any design aesthetic and creative interpretation.

I think Spring is a great time to create and experiment with monochromatic floral arranging, as it’s a time when most of our gardens are at their best. When we have many of the same singular flower, in most likely the same color. When gathered and grouped together, yes it may seem too minimalistic but ultimately creates a lush vibrant arrangement.

The vessel you use can do a lot to tell the floral story of your monochromatic arrangement. I will admit the first piece I naturally grab, for my spring flowers is a classic ceramic white pitcher. A classic no matter how you approach its design; it has withstood time to still work its magic in capturing the delight, that is the blooming seasons of Mother Nature. They are beautiful whether the edges are etched with curves or kept sleek and modern — always beautifully sturdy for arranging with those pretty tulips, joyful sunflowers and statement flowering branches we love so much.

Whichever the container one uses remember that movement and height are key for a monochromatic floral arrangement to really catch the eye … and well, simply not fall flat, as sometimes rounder shaped singular centerpieces can easily do.

The same way you create texture, depth and shape when working with several different flowers, you would do the same but with the singular bloom. Using your vessel of choice and those same floral arranging techniques like adding slight height to one side, or using smaller buds to draw the eye close while the larger beautiful painting-like blooms stand out on their own — you can easily create a modern and beautifully captivating floral arrangement. A pedestal vase is certainly one of my favorites for making this floral design stand out and ultimately give that romantic Spring fine art feeling I love.

However you decide to style and decorate with your flowers this spring season, try experimenting with a singular monochromatic design. A lovely, simplistic and calming moment that will surely spark endless creativity in our blooming souls …..

In my element✨ in nature, amongst the flowers, s In my element✨
in nature, amongst the flowers, setting a table, creating ...

One of my favorite effortless entertaining design tricks, is to create a floral runner using bud vases! Perfect for those short garden blooms & no floral expertise needed ...

🌿Gather your bud vases, small vessels & glass containers to fit a bloom or two
🌿Gather all your blooms & greens, making sure there is slight variety in height, shape, texture & tone
🌿Now assemble your tiny floral vessels, adding them down the center of your table — creating small clusters of vases ... keep in mind the more vases you place, how closely they are & the larger the flower — the lusher your floral table becomes. For a minimalist floral table runner, add more space between less vases, while still making sure that from above it still has the continuous look & flow of a flower garland
🌿Nestle in candlelight, draping greens or seasonal produce for a personal finishing touch

34 who?! Me?? Most certainly not! I most certainly 34 who?! Me?? Most certainly not! I most certainly don’t feel my age, but it is in the passage of time, the memories gone, now part of another chapter that I’m reminded. Or I stop to recognize all that I have built in a business, but also as a person. All the good, the sad & still yet to learn. I would say I am entering my most confident chapter yet, at least I’d like to think so far it is…do I sometimes think of where I “should be” or what “others think I should be” based on my age, ehh yes but then I look at this soul & am taken aback at how much she continues to expand! All in due time, it all just rolls off easier with age😉

Thank you for all the birthday love! Here’s to many more dances around the sun & moon, with plenty of adventures & creations along the way🤍✨

Also what do you do on your birthday when you don’t like being in front of the camera — you face your dislikes & challenge yourself to keep blooming into the best version of yourself😜🌼
