When Cosmos and Daisies become the focal point of a design…In fact, these darling wildflower blooms were the sole inspiration for this communion celebration’s entire vision. With the intention of simply creating a lovely and soft design, we joyfully began with a blank canvas when creating the details for this event. We were inspired to veer more towards a modern garden, one with clean lines and beautiful natural textures.
And texture, and texture, and more texture! By using woods, stones, sheer linens, acrylic, handmade paper and monochromatic flowers, in both fresh and dried form — what at first impression may appear perplexing, becomes a lovely design with cohesive juxtaposition. There are several distinctly different details, that one might miss all the intricacies, if not looked upon well.
And you can see all the details below….

As guests entered Delia’s communion celebration, they were greeted with a welcome and seating display highlighting all the gorgeous textures. The colors were kept soft and neutral with creams, ivory, white, and hints of dainty yellow which mimicked that of the daisies/cosmos. Pressed flower acrylics, handwritten with table lists, were displayed on a texture stone wall and decorated with dried floral garlands, along with wood structures of cascading white hydrangea and amaranth.
The custom designed Welcome Sign was a three dimensional dried floral piece as a nod to the acyrlic pieces on the seating chart. And the deckle edge paper continued the organic look of the invitations, along with the rest of the stationery seen on the table and favors. This seating display is a gorgeous example of organic delicate details being reimagined and interpreted in a modern way.

The sweet and dainty centerpieces, featuring White Cosmos, Feverfew Daisies, Sweetpea and Tulips — made for a table design that was anything but boring. Sheer textured cream linens added depth and warmth, as did the mismatching taper candles in their different shapes and varying shades of creamy blushy browns.
La Petite Paperterie took our minimalist ideas and created table numbers that perfectly captured our design vision. Handmade paper with pressed yellow flowers and a sheer vellum, it was like a miniature version of our seating chart. It was also the same beautiful paper used on the Holy Water bottle favors guests took home.

The cake and main display featured more of all the natural wood and stone surfaces. As if a corner of a secret modern garden, a wooden trellis was adorned with climbing greens and flowers, as dried garlands draped atop. Mixing similar shaped tables, but in differing colors and textures we were able to create an intriguing visual. An intimate curated design, that also perfectly displayed the favors.
And let’s not forget the grand cake made by Lady Lia’s Cakes! A textured cream beauty, that looks as if the sugar pieces are melting off …well that is exactly what it resembles. It’s meant to appear as if the old delicate pieces of plaster are slowly withering off…
Take this as your invitation to mix textures and styles, but that any event design {yes, even a child’s communion celebration}, can be modern chic, fine art minimalism and still sweet and delicate!
**Please do not mind the plate beneath the cake and cake topper…Dreamery Events did not style these, as Restaurant placed these items before guest arrival**
