Elsa & Michael’s Modern Romantic Wedding Inspired by Burgundy & Marble Details

There is often pleasure in the waiting for things to unfold … and then there are other times when the waiting continues for far too long because of things one cannot control. That was the case for Elsa and Michael‘s wedding, which due to the Covid pandemic not only postponed their original wedding date for 2020 but then again their rescheduled date in 2021 to July of 2022 — when they could finally have the celebration of their dreams with all their loved ones, from near and far. And what a party it was, with the groom entering the reception celebration doing the worm, yes, the worm! It almost doesn’t seem real to think we first met over four years ago to discuss the flowers and style of their wedding.

Yet it was just like yesterday witnessing the special and fun love between these two, and discussing our first order of business — incorporating the color red in a modern yet romantic way, a nod to the groom’s beloved soccer team from Portugal, Benfica. I’m all for making your wedding your own which celebrates your personality and loves. Red, a color often times challenging to work with and one still used quite restrictedly within event decor, so we wanted to do something different yet romantic with it. Elsa had a clear vision for the details she wanted to bring to life, and despite the time that had passed, they were committed to their vision. Modern sleek geometric lines in varying metallics from golds to rose golds to bronzes, that blended with marble textures. It’s one of those elements that instantly says cool and modern, and yet still isn’t all too often used within wedding designs. One might assume an autumn or winter celebration would be the perfect season for this color palette, and although it is, we wanted to make sure this was very much a summer vibe! With romantic pretty hues of blush, mauve and light pinks used within the flowers, it set the tone for romance which perfectly complimented the darker moodier burgundies, maroon and hints of deep reds. The beautiful rich Ranunculus and Scabiosa were an indescribable picture perfect color, the delicate use of Protea, and of course Michael’s suit which was custom made with lining fabric celebrating the love of his soccer team …..

The floral vision was lush and romantically simple, as the bridesmaids carried organic bundles featuring flowers within the color palette, while the flower girls carried modern gold hoops tied with white flowers and silk ribbon. Elsa’s bouquet was a lush natural bundle, a little boho a little classic, with all the beautiful blooms seen throughout their wedding and wrapped with silk ribbon around medallions of photos with her grandparents who have passed.

We teamed up with the amazing team of Magnolia Florals for the reception florals at The Gramercy at Lakeside Manor. Lanterns in different aged metals, shapes and sizes, some antique inspired and others in modern geo shapes that were placed throughout the spaces guests would mingle – – the entrance, cocktail hour and lounge area set with their marble inspired seating chart and long table decorated for Elsa and Michael’s loved ones no longer with them. Marble was seen in the welcome and miscellaneous signs, the tile table numbers, and yes the seating display of hanging fabric flags decorated with florals and lanterns. Hints of acrylic were also used, as seen with the bride and groom’s chairs, as well as rich cream velvet linens to create a warm ambiance. One of the simplest ways to make any wedding or special occasion feel intimate and romantic, is to use candle light! And we used endless candles, which flickered as the golden summer sun set and guests celebrated their love for Elsa and Michael.

Together with Magnolia we created three different centerpiece designs, panning from grand to minimalist beauty. The first style; a boho mix of greens, rich burgundy flowers with touches of delicate blushes atop a sleek gold pedestal. The second; a floral lover’s dream of lush romantic blooms, like peonies and garden roses, arranged in an antique gold vessel and styled with taper candles. And the third; a simple and classic cluster of hurricane candles nestled with sprigs of greens and blooms for the perfect touch.

And their cake a marble piece showcasing all nods to all their design details, inspired by their invitation which they loved so much and didn’t change one element since their original wedding date. You couldn’t have asked for a more lovelier summer’s day, and Elsa and Michael, along with their loved ones were ready to celebrate and enjoy this special day to the fullest, and they sure did.
