There are so many reasons to have a celebration; birthdays, engagements, a new baby…which only name a few. For many, religious milestones are very much an important reason to celebrate life. For many Catholics, the first of several celebrations on their religious path, is their Christening, or often referred to as Baptism. It isn’t usually celebrated to the grandeur and liveliness of a wedding, and yet it is just as an important moment to make special. Christenings don’t need to be over the top, they are the perfect opportunity to have a simple, but still beautifully decorated party to celebrate with loved ones. A few weeks ago I shared this green and white floral arrangement perfect for any season of the year, and today I’m finally sharing the party behind the inspiration for these beauties!
A party doesn’t always need a literal “theme” , honestly sometimes I prefer to style a party without a restricting theme. Of course every event has a vision, but it’s usually more fun to dig deeper into our creative outlets and use different forms of inspiration, feelings or moods to create a look for an event. And that was this Christening party! Using only the colors of green and white as the inspiration, my favorite colors as that, I thought outside the box of typical Autumn party ideas. With plenty of fragrant eucalyptus, soft white roses and fabrics, along with gilded touches and a few hints of Autumn’s gourds, I created a modern classic party lovely enough for any type of celebration, and of course, any season of the year…
We completely threw out tradition with this party, creating a chic modern entrance with an acrylic painted Welcome sign with clusters of different rose gold candle holders. But guests were immediately welcomed with the very cool, and unique, copper seating chart stand, delicately dressed in fresh greens and seating cards perfectly tied on with ribbon.
Copper elements, including this seating chart stand is definitely making its mark in the wedding world, so it was such a fun element to incorporate in an often more traditional party setting.
If there was one part of this Christening that deserves recognition, it’d have to be this gorgeous, yet minimal dessert table! Green and white were the the overall inspiration for this party, but so was this showstopping cake! The final creation by the talented Spoonful of Heaven was a more paired down version of the original inspiration photo, but with the lovely DIY glittering wreath, it was such a beautiful focal point for the whole party! Soft, ethereal white drapes whisped behind the table, where a garland of fresh eucalyptus bundles, hung above.
To continue that simplistic look, custom sugar cookies, cake pops and mini cupcakes were adorned with a sprinkling of gold, which glistened alongside the candlelight and sprigs of fresh greens. Of course there was a pretty green glass pumpkin for good measure, but if it wasn’t for this tiny detail, at first glance you may have never expected this party to have taken place in the middle of October.
Oh look another pumpkin! This one personalized with copper calligraphy and placed at the head table with more fresh greens, gilded twinkle lights and pretty floral arrangements.
Green and white floral arrangements are anything but boring!! With large bloom “Playa Blanca” roses, Ranunculus, Stock, Scabiosa, and Veronica White Flowers nestled amongst Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and Lemon Leaf, this centerpiece was a beauty of lush texture!
Using minimal theme and specific decor elements is something I’ve always stuck with, when it comes to my own styling aesthetic. Of course with the exception, when parties have a literal theme but even so, I never want a party to feel outdated or that it can’t work for certain people’s taste or a specific time of the year. Looking at this styling, someone can easily become inspired to recreate something similar for Winter or Summer. And that’s how any party, or wedding, styling should be.
Go ahead include those trending details or colors, but make sure the end result is timeless!
These days no celebration is complete without a photo booth, and this one had a faux green backdrop dressed with white berry stems and a custom wood cutout in gold of course!
Kids also had plenty to entertain themselves with! There were fun coloring pages and Autumn gourds of all shapes, textures and colors to decorate and then take home!
It was most certainly a special and beautiful modern classic way to celebrate Adelaide’s Christening!
