The inspiration for this first holy communion celebration, all came from a photograph of a beautiful tiered cake made to look as if some beautiful stone creation from another time, adorned with delicate blooms. Everything about this image evoked a feeling of ethereal texture, but in a fresh modern way. And that’s exactly how I wanted this al fresco tent celebration to feel … from the delicate romantic handmade paper stationery by August + White, natural textural elements like woods, clays, organic fabrics and a gorgeous display that resembled a rich aged plaster wall covered in clouds of baby’s breath! It was such creative delight transforming an often traditional celebration into something special, see all the details below and hope it inspires you as well …..
A seating chart is such a great way to display your creativity and vision in a unique way And for this celebration we knew we wanted to create a display of pressed flower frames. Each natural wood frame with soft colored blooms, was placed onto a backdrop resembling the beauty of watercolor and that distinct texture of stone plaster walls. Despite being in an outdoor tent, does not mean one can’t bring in elements that give a sense as if we’re in some beautiful aged location. Organically draped in baby’s breath and greens, guests were welcomed with that ethereal feeling, even before seeing the rest of Olivia’s party details.
Tablescapes were kept simple with the intent of highlighting all the beautiful natural textures of the exposed wood tables and chairs from Magnolia Events, gold stemware, cheesecloth runners that swayed in the breeze and a mixture of clay, ceramic and terracotta seen in the vase and candle holders.
Centerpieces were low lush arrangements of romantic Quicksand Roses, White Ranunculus, Spray Roses, Larkspur, Astilbe, Tweedia, Baby’s Breath and whimsical dried stems like Pampas and Scabiosa Pods.
Now for the main display, which served as the background for the show-stopping cake created by Lady Lia’s Cakes who interpreted our vision better than even imagined, with a beautiful textured pattern and clusters of dried blooms that tied in the different colors used throughout. As was the custom-made backdrop by GoldyWay that mimiced the look of an aged plaster wall. The perfect softness that would naturally blend alongside the climbing billows of baby’s breath. Baby’s Breath has come such a long way to become a flower, especially when arranged in lush bundles, that truly makes a statement!
It may have been overcast with clouds, but it certainly didn’t dampen this day. Olivia and her friends had plenty to entertain themselves with outdoor play, tabletop games and custom activity booklets. Each guest was gifted with a bottle of Holy Water to take home.
Loved putting together all the special details of this celebration, and what a beautiful way to kick off a full event season!
