There are infinite ways we can celebrate color within the design of an event, from a rainbow mix, to focusing on two colors or neutrals. And yes, even monochromatic color palettes that highlight one single beautiful hue and all it’s varying shades, becomes a lovely and modern approach to designing with color. Aneesa, the ever-creative client whom together we’ve worked on her bridal shower and wedding, had a clear vision for son’s Baptism. With soft yet rich dusty blues, a touch of elegant vintage whimsy and hints of varrying textures…we styled a beautiful event not only befitting for a young child but for any lover of the color blue…..

To welcome guests to any celebration, I love creating a space that is more than simply a display but rather an interactive area. By using different furniture, vintage pieces, and rugs we created a beautifully intimate welcome for guests, all of which served an important as well. Shutter doors became a stand for the vintage mirror welcome sign, a stone table displayed florals and highlighted the textured color palette — while a bookshelf displayed the kid favor boxes and a vintage garden terrarium stand held candle favors that were also guest seating cards.
Look closely and you will see the gorgeous details within each piece, handmade by Aneesa and her mother. As a lover of stationery, she finally created her own brand La Petite Paperterie and custom-made every paper good featured. Hand-poured candles in vintage inspired glass containers smelled divine with lavender buds, and a delicate wraparound tag and velvet ribbon. The kid activity box favors were a hit, all customized with each child’s name and to fit within the theme. From the coloring book, crayon boxes, Paint Your Own Cookie made by Blake’s godmother who also made the cake, and little crochet toys made by baby’s grandmother.
They may be small details, but ones that showcase a labor of love and attention to those fine details that make Aneesa’s ideas special.

Choosing to design a monochromatic floral centerpiece can seem like a challenge, and when our palette is restricted to a limited number of blue flowers that exist…it requires one to creatively think outside the box. Arranged wild and organically within low ceramic white bowls, here we incorporated fresh Delphinium, dyed Tulips, Carnations and Hydrangea. Cornflower and Blue thistle were nestled in as well as dried stems and blooms, that were painted to perfectly blend in. White button mums and fern leaves created cohesion and added texture. Paired alongside the beautifully designed table numbers, chiffon linens and taper candles….guest tables were a vision of dusty blues.
For the head table, we did a completely different design by incorporating a soft touch of wood that displayed long atop lovely lace linens. Arranged within the wooden blocks were varying stems of dried blooms, as if little dusty blue and white fireworks exploding along the table.

Melitas Balloons is always a pleasure to work with, and here she perfectly reflected the dusty blues in a grand balloon garland that draped along white fluted arch walls. The cake, a monochromatic vision, was adorned with delicate white stems and the prettiest statement-making chiffon bow!

Whether for a young boy, a darling little lady, bridal shower or wedding — I think this modern elegant affair perfectly celebrates how dusty blue, or another monochromatic color palette can work for any event design! And I hope it has inspired you…..
