Delicate colors, soft textures, a focus on olive branches and florals arranged with an organic airy feel — this was the intention for this baptism celebration inspired by the feeling of a Mediterranean garden.
What a beautiful honor it is to have some part in someone else’s life milestones. But how incredibly special to do it more than once, helping other’s bring their wedding and then their children’s celebrations to life. It was such a pleasure working with Sandy for her bridal and baby shower, I was delighted to collaborate once more for her daughter’s Baptism. With a date and venue change, these small mishaps ended up working in our favor. With Dafina restaurant naturally evoking a minimal and organic Mediterranean aesthetic, its neutral tones and woods were the perfect setting for the delicate details Sandy had envisioned…
Our focal flower were olive branches, a staple in Mediterranean and European landscapes. Lush centerpieces of olive greens and voluminous blush colored roses arranged in ceramics, adorned some of the tables. While the others featured groupings of dainty glass dishes with romantic blooms like Garden Roses, Sweet Pea, Larkspur, Hellebore, Orlaya and mini Carnations interwoven with mini ceramics filled with more olive branches and sweet wispy greens. Every table was draped with soft linens, varying gold and glass taper holders with candles in textured neutral hues — while some were sweetly tied with bows of silk ribbon.
While olive greens may have been the prominent detail, we incorporated flowers in numerous ways to make the space feel like a garden. Clouds of pink, green and white hydrangea welcomed guests into the space, displaying the seating chart printed on handmade paper.
Olive sprigs were placed at every place setting, with Leonore’s godparents receiving a special bundle of rosemary tied with silk ribbon customized with “Madrinha” and “Padrinho,” the Portuguese word for godmother and godfather.
The cake and dessert backdrop was an airy styling of draping fabrics and natural woods, surrounded by baskets and vintage vessels overflowing with Olive greens, Delphinium and Yarrow.
Sandy wanted to somehow incorporate a very special quote within the event design. Since ribbons and draping were a detail carried throughout the design, I thought why not continue it by adding “I have loved you with an everlasting love” onto layers of silk ribbon draping from candles. It became a subtle statement with a beautifully personal story. These are the kinds of details I love creating in my designs. It makes every event completely personal and unique.
And to finish it all off, naturally the perfect gift for guests to take home were small bottles of olive oil, each tied with sprigs of rosemary and custom designed tags.
From the moment guests walked through the door and sat around one another, our styling and florals allowed everyone to celebrate this special moment in Leonore’s life, while intentionally feeling as if in a calming Mediterranean garden. Hope you enjoyed and are inspired by these delicate details…
