“…and the sun took a step back, the leaves lulled themselves to sleep,
and Autumn was awakened…” – Raquel Franco
Autumn florals are often boxed into certain color palettes of oranges, browns, and reds; but it’s a season with a much more nuanced color story. A kaleidoscope of hues that blur the lines of vibrance and subtleness, like rich calming greens. Where blushes and every shade of wine and berry tones deeply delight — where browns are evermore playful, and everything becomes gorgeously golden. It’s in these colors and textures that we see the season’s natural progression beautifully reflected.
This is what most inspires me as I slowly, and fully embrace the season’s textures and naturally unique colors, especially as Autumn’s gloom begins to settle in and the sun’s warmth slowly slips away. I’m all for an autumn centerpiece and florals that break the mold of seasonal tradition, so go ahead and make it garden style! As in create with only what’s currently in the garden or has been dried and saved from previous harvest seasons. The centerpieces below all vary in color, size and shape, yet each one beautifully reflects the versatile and expansive richness of creating Autumn floral designs…..
DAISIES & MOSS
Daisies in their full autumnal bloom and turned into an alternative seasonal centerpiece. A a vibrant pop of yellow this time of year always makes one smile. Here moss was used to cover up a slender tray, with daisies styled in varying heights for a contemporary feel. For added texture and warmth, nestled within were fluted dusty brown candles in clay terracotta pieces. Moss is such a grounding element that it creates a centerpiece that gives off forest fairy vibes, adding a whimsical ambiance to your gatherings and Thanksgiving tablescapes.
Two or three groupings of this centerpiece would be lovely styled atop a long table.

ROSE & PLUM HUES
“Remember, nature whispers, there is time for it all. Soften the urgency and move with ease.
Patience is your ally on this journey of change.” — Kait Waitzkin
Let’s embrace more of Autumn’s negative space. Fragrant “Easter Basket” Garden Roses, still blooming in yellows, pale peaches and captivating pinks, are paired with deep plum colored Alumroot leaves and a single golden brown dried leaf. It may not seem like a likely pairing, but it’s a favorite autumn color palette of mine. And if you look closely to the details of mother nature, very much the beautiful colors of its natural seasonal progression.
In this centerpiece, the bareness of stems were very much the focal point as were the large-scale blooms, reminiscent to the lines and negative spaces we’d find amongst the trees now as they begin to loose their leaves. We’re celebrating how imperfections are just as intriguing to the eye in floral design, which makes this arrangement of a classic contemporary style.

AUTUMN BUT MAKE IT GARDEN STYLE
In this organic mix of fresh, dried and in-between blooms, we created a depiction of a garden entering its Autumn Slumber. Arranged with Water Mint, “Easter Basket” Spray Roses, “Cupcake Blush” Cosmos, Daisies, Rose of Sharon, Hairy Alumroot, Clematis Pods, Thai Basil, Showy Stonecrop, Hosta Leaves and Dried…Astrantia, Italian Ruscus and Dagger Flower.
I always feel there are certain moments where a photograph doesn’t do it justice, and more often it’s a floral arrangement. Its intricacies, depth and movement simply cannot be captured as accurately as if seen and experienced in person. For me, this piece is one of those moments where it looks even better enjoyed up close. It’s rich in so much texture that serves as a reminder of this season’s depth, and how many wonderful natural elements there are for us to create floral magic with.
