Flowers are language, poetry … a conduit for human connection…
Cosmos are some of my favorite flowers, especially in the garden where they always add a touch of whimsy and abundantly attract pollinators. They evoke that wildflower feeling and aesthetic when grown, but even more so when cut and styled. Cosmos are not meant to be arranged within stiff designs. Their delicate stems, organic curves and frilly petals beckon for arrangements or bouquets that allow them to breathe and move how they naturally do. Tall and airy, cosmos are anything but filler flowers — they transform into statement blooms wherever they’re placed.
This arrangement is a celebration of Cosmos, the bloomers of late summer that then welcome autumn. In whites and light pinks and rich magentas — with wide or curled cylinder-like petals, in cupcake form — Cosmos are the magic of lush wild and organic floral designs. They naturally are the focal point of this piece, with their tall lines creating the main shape that is filled in with the prettiest salmon peachy pink colored Zinnias.
With a final touch of long, soft Lemon Balm stems that adds height, a vibrant green citrusy scent and even more of that delightful organic feel. Three ingredients, that’s all I used to create this floral arrangement within a small ceramic dish, secured with a flower frog and chicken wire inside for sustainable support. And there were no rules when creating this piece, no following the rule of thirds or creating triangle shapes. However each stem wanted to fall and stand is where it lived, however short or tall it was cut from the garden, was how it was used.
I wanted it to be and feel as natural as possible, so much so that it looks slightly different in every photo. Each bloom continuing to move and evolve with the final design.
Like a still life, where moments are captured and created with intention, these delightful Cosmos brightened our indoor space as if growing in the garden.

She’s petite, she’s cute, she dances in the wind … she’s all the vibrant colors of late summer and early autumn. And that is everything this petite bridal bouquet is!
I love a small bouquet, and the love the wedding world gives this style comes and goes. In phases, it shines on lush bundles or cascading gems, but is there room for grand beauty in petite floral forms. Whether showcasing one variety of flower or monochrome in color, it really is a floral style that lends itself to whatever wedding design but more importantly, personal style.
And I’m very much partial to this darling bundle because it features one of my favorite flowers — Cosmos. With their wispy petals, I think they are simply perfect in bouquets. Arranged with a few small bloom Zinnias, and another of my favorites; ‘Easter Basket’ Roses now transitioning into their peachy pink hues — its colors are both vibrantly soft and whimsical. Often overlooked and not used within bouquets, or floral designs because its vase life may not always be the longest; is Maidenhair Fern. Its chartreuse undertones were perfection, but its delicate petals blended gracefully with the airyness of this bouquet.
It may be small, but when the right flowers are used in petite bouquets they perfectly reflect the person and naturally flow with the movement of being carried.
